Medicare Supplements
|

|
Medicare Supplement policies fill the 'gaps' in the Original Medicare Plan provided by CMS, (Centers for Medicare Services). They help pay some or most of the health care cost that the Original Medicare Plan doesn't cover. These costs are associated with the Part A Deductible of $1,100.00 in 2010, the Part B deductible of $155.00 and the 20% of Medically Necessary bills that Medicare doesn't cover.
Medicare Supplements, also known as "Medigap Policies", are regulated by the states and CMS of the Federal Government while other insurance products are largely governed only by the state. So before you purchase a Medigap Policy you should find out exactly what it will do for you.
The ABC's of Medigap Insurance
- You must have both Part A and Part B of Medicare to purchase a Medicare Supplement policy.
- If you are on Medicare Disability you may want to check out our Medicare Advantage plans.
- As of June 1, 2010 there are (10) "Modernized Supplement Plans" listed as A to N. Not all plans are sold in all states.
- Each letter, (A to N) has a different set of basic and extra benefits.
- Standardized plans listed as E, H, I, and J or no longer available after June 1, 2010. If you have already purchased a plan with this letter you do not have to change. Your benefits will be grand fathered in to the new plans.
- Benefits for all policies are the same no matter what company sells the plan. Example; An F plan is an F plan is an F plan. monthly premiums can vary from company to company.
- A Medigap policy purchased by one spouse does not cover the other spouse. Each spouse must have their own policy.
- If you are still working, and are covered by an employer group plan, you may not need to purchase a Medigap policy.
- You cannot have more than one Medicare coverage.
- Veterans are allowed to have a Medigap policy as well as continue to receive benefits from the VA Administration.
